Acid Reflux Disease Medications Use Money Making Strategies To Promote Their Products

June 2nd, 2008 | by admin |

Both Prilosec and Nexium are effective in suppressing the erosion of acid reflux disease.  AstraZeneca, the maker of Prilosec and Nexium, earns at least $6 billion each year from the sale of Prilosec alone.  Be careful that when you do select a certain medication to control your acid reflux disease problems that it is effective in treating your symptoms and isn’t just being used to make money for the company.

When Prilosec had lost its patent, AstraZeneca launched a $500 million marketing strategy to draw consumers to its second highest costing product – Nexium.  They drew away about 42% of Prilosec customers to Nexium, although Nexium was the inferior product.  Now they are both big money- making products for AstraZeneca.
