Blood Pressure and Gravity

One of the more interesting subjects related to blood pressure is postural hypotension, which many of us experience when we get up too quickly after lying down or sitting for long periods of time. We might not realize it, but our heart is quite a wonderful machine. It constantly fights gravity in order to get blood circulating in the brain, the organ of our body that requires the most blood to function. Gravity still acts on our bodily fluids however, and this fact is definitely not lost on racecar drivers and aircraft pilots who regularly experience gravitational forces much greater than what we normally experience.
