Degenerative spine at a young age

June 11th, 2008 | by admin |

Spinal problems are hitting people at a younger and younger age. I was shocked to hear that my son’s friend in school (just barely a teenager) had been laid up in bed for quite sometime because of a Degenerative Spine as the doctors put it. Although commonly associated with aging, this disease appears even in the young because of an increasingly sedentary lifestyle and bad eating habits. Together, this combination is making the children obese and weight gain has been found to be one of the main reasons for a degenerative spine. Kids nowadays are glued mostly to the TV or the computer and do not participate much in physical activities. The discs which comprise the spine start deteriorating and cause pain and make movement difficult. I have already restricted my child’s TV and computer viewing hours and am encouraging him to take part in sports and eat properly.
