What risks are involved in total knee replacement?

If you are considering undergoing knee replacement are there are risks to consider.  Risks for total knee replacement include blood clots which can travel from the legs to the lungs.  Known as pulmonary embolism, these blood clots can result in shortness of breath, chest pain, and even worse -shock.  Many other illnesses including urinary tract infection and blood vessel injury are at risk with this surgery.  Chronic knee pain and stiffness, two of the reasons for having the knee replacement surgery to begin with, could reoccur.
